Rules/Guidelines for the
2009 North American Llama & Alpaca Show

General Rules:
Exhibitors are allowed to enter both the ILR-SD and ALSA shows. If entering both shows, you will show once and get placed for both sanctioned shows. Please specify and pay ILR-SD and ALSA fees per number of animals listed on the llama entry form.

ILR-SD and ALSA entries for a class will be judged in arena at the same time but for separate ILR-SD and ALSA placings. Entries in both sanctioned shows will be judged and placed in both ILR-SD and ALSA placings. No overall class placings will be announced just ILR-SD and ALSA placings. Halter judging will continue Saturday until completed.

Rules/Guidelines ILR-SD posted rules and current ALSA Handbook with addendums as applicable to each sanctioned show. Exhibitor's must be the registered owners & make entry in the exact names as shown on the registration certificate. Non-breeders must be accompanied by a vet certificate verifying non-breeder status. For ILR-SD classes, all llamas must be ILR registered for Halter & Fleece Classes. Non-ILR registered or llamas without an ILR listing number may show in the Performance, Showmanship, Youth divisions or other optional classes only after obtaining an ILR Tracking Number. Membership in ILR-SD not required to show in ILR-SD show. No non-member fee.

For ALSA classes, all llamas must be ILR registered, except animals for youth classes or non-breeders with a vet certificate. Membership in ALSA required to show in ALSA show or alternate non-member fee is payable. All alpacas entered in the show must be registered by the Alpaca Registry, Inc. (ARI), Canadian Livestock Records Corporation (CLRC) or the International Lama Registry (ILR).

ALL ANIMALS BROUGHT TO THE NORTH AMERICAN LLAMA AND ALPACA SHOW MUST BE ENTERED IN THE SHOW. The policy on display animals for the show is that they must be in the East Wing Commercial exhibit area and pay the rates for booth space. This policy applies to all species of livestock. These display animals must adhere to the guidelines of their exhibit contract for space rental. One entry/youth in all youth performance classes. An animal can only go through each OB, PR, or Pack class one time.

A Youth who turns 8 during the year can show as of his/her birthday.
    ILR-SD
  • Jr. Youth: 7-11
  • Intermediate/Novice Youth: 12-18
    (less than 3 years showing experience)
  • Sr/Advanced Youth: 12-18
    (3 years or more showing experience)

Include ALSA numbers for each youth handler and adult showmanship exhibitor.

If not owner of Sire or Dam in Get or Produce classes-must bring written permission from owner.

Enter your single best female or male, any age or fiber division as long as it is an animal you have bred and still own. Show off what your farm has to offer!

Produce Of Dam: 2 offspring-same dam.
Get Of Sire: 3 offspring-same sire, out of 2 different dams.
All Get & Produce entries must show in appropriate halter classes.

All animals must be 5 months of age to show. Nursing llama and alpaca mothers may not be accompanied in the ring by their crias. Include all ALSA numbers for your animal..

LLAMA WOOL DESCRIPTIONS: Light: Minimum body wool, short neck wool, and smooth legs. Medium: moderate to long body wool, minimal to moderate neck wool, smooth to moderate leg wool. Heavy: abundant body & neck wool with minimal to abundant leg wool.. Suri: Lustrous, cool hand, lack of crimp and loft, locked fiber that drapes over the llamas body. Fibers are grouped in distinctive, defined lock structure. Enter your animals in their proper wool divisions.

Llama Walking Fiber Class will be held in a specified area and judged individually at the exhibitors convenience Friday evening after exhibitors meeting and from 8:00 AM til 11:00 AM Saturday.

Alpaca Walking Fiber Classes will be judged after halter judging on Saturday. The walking fiber classes will be pulled into the arena as a class, placings announced and oral reasons given at some point on Saturday. Don't miss this important part of the camelid industry. Entry for Walking Fiber can be made and paid for at registration on Friday.

Shorn Fiber entries must be turned in by 6:00 pm Friday evening.

Arrival Time: 11:00 AM on Friday-9 PM

PLEASE NOTE: State Vet inspection required prior to stalling. Vet will be at the llama building only until 6 pm. Arrival after 6 pm will require securing a inspection vet from another location at the facility resulting in some delay in stalling. Some classes are also being held Friday evening so check schedule to determine your necessary arrival time.

It is important for all exhibitors to attending the exhibitor's meeting Friday evening at 6:30 pm following the complimentary dinner at 6:00 pm.

Entry deadline is postmarked by October 26, 2009.
